Equipment... and Other Resources

Not too long ago, I was discussing our company's services to a prospective client. Suddenly he remarked to me, "Oh, you're just a broker!"

Just a broker? Purchasing print through a broker is a very seamless and common way of getting your jobs printed.

DM Graphics, along with its roster of printers and manufacturers, can back up its products and services with over 200 years of experience!

There are many advantages to using a broker, like DM Graphics. Here's how this benefits you...

  • Print Just About Anything That You Need!

  • We have access to all kinds of equipment and other resources. It is difficult, if not impossible, for any one print shop to own all the equipment necessary to provide the whole range of print products from envelopes to 3D lenticular bookmarks.

Bradford Direct, one of the premier lettershops in Canada, used to have its own in-house print department. Even with its own print equipment and staff, it was still necessary to send out more than half of its printing to accommodate the clients' needs.

Most lettershops who offer print services these days do not have in-house printing equipment -- they broker it out!

  • Save You Money With Highly Competitive Pricing!

  • Using a commercial print shop to handle all of your printing, dm or otherwise, can be very expensive!

Over the years (28 of them, at last count), it has become very clear to me that unless a printer has experience printing for the direct marketing industry, he will be completely overpriced!

How many times has a commercial printer approached me and asked me to give him a chance to show me how competitive his pricing was, and then been way out of the ballpark? Too many to count. Turnaround times? Forget it!

In addition to all that, we won't even bring up the issue of the special requirements for laser stock.

Most printers supplying the dm market are very competitive but even using a single printer familiar with dm for all of your campaign print materials may still not be the most cost-effective strategy. Very few, if any at all, manufacture their own envelopes, for example, or such specialities as Post-it Notes. Like brokers, they too broker them out!

  • Meet Your Deadlines!

  • Spreading print jobs around to different printers is a good way to ensure that all of your campaign mail components will arrive at the lettershop on time.

If you are using a single printer, for the sake of profit, that printer is committed to doing it all in his own shop. Sending it out to another print shop would most likely chew up any profits being made by the printer.

So unless you are a really good customer, chances are that you will end up with a delayed mailing!

A broker, especially one working under tight timelines, is not likely to jeapordize an account by dumping everything in one spot!

A successful, experienced broker, like DM Graphics, will have a list of various qualified trade printers acquired through many years of trial and error. (By the way, most inexperienced print buyers tend to source out the cheapest price which can be a bad career move.)

Using his experience, a broker is able to not only have the job printed in the right place with the right equipment but also he is able to use multiple printers so that no one shop is overloaded, resulting in late deliveries.

In summary, DM Graphics adds value to its services gained through years of working with various print shops. Brokers and trade printers exist because the brokering system of printing continues to be a very valuable and efficient way of supplying on-time quality print at competitive prices!
